Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is capable of inducing depression-like behaviors in mice, and this induction is closely associated with neuroinflammation, impairment of synaptic plasticity, and disruption of the glutamate/gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) cycle triggered by FSH, suggesting that FSH may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of depression [32].
