The finding by Bu et al. [127] suggests that matrix metalloproteinase-degradable (MMP-degradable) gelatin nanoparticles (Gel-Ns) effectively release the encapsulated photosensitizer indocyanine green (ICG) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) inhibitor NSC74859 in tumor tissue, enabling a dual approach for HNSCC treatment, namely PTT and immunotherapy. This evidence concerns the gene STAT3 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
