Comparative functional genetic screening in patient-derived glioblastoma multiforme stem-like cells (GSC) and fetal neural stem cells revealed BUGZ as a candidate whose loss specifically prevented GSC proliferation, suggesting that glioblastoma cells have certain kinetochore signaling defects that can be overcome by BUGZ activity (Toledo et al, 2014). The gene discussed is ZNF207; the disease is glioblastoma.
