It would be useful to differentiate between treatments like GLP-1 analogues, which reduce inflammation partly by reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-6 or TNF) [36] on the one hand; and endogenous secretion of GLP-1 on the other hand, which is activated in sepsis via activation of the innate immune system and associated with organ dysfunction [36,37].
