Advanced cirrhosis, which representsthe end stage of liver injury, is one example where this occurs. When albumin levels are diminished, highly plasmaprotein-bound drugs may cause toxicities. Analysis of drugs interacting with albumin in the cholestasis andDILI rank data sets revealed that a higher proportion of drugs associatedwith cholestasis and DILI fall into the high plasma protein bindingclass, compared to those in noncholestatic or no-DILI concern classes(Figure ). The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is cholestasis.
