HTR1A and Cognitive impairment: These include (1) enhancement of dopaminergic and cholinergic neurotransmission in the prefrontal cortex and/or hippocampus [52, 53], (2) preferential activation of cortical 5‐HT1A receptors, with negative feedback on 5‐HT release via presynaptic 5‐HT1A autoreceptors [54, 55], (3) promotion of neuroplasticity of hippocampal neurons [56], and (4) neuroprotective actions against pathological processes causing cognitive impairment in vascular depression [57, 58, 59].
