According to the 5th edition of the WHO Classification of Soft Tissue Tumors released in 2020 (Schaefer and Gronchi, 2022), subtypes of LPS include atypical lipomatous tumor (ALT)/well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS), dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS), myxoid liposarcoma (MLPS), pleomorphic liposarcoma (PLPS), and myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MPLPS), with MPLPS being a new addition characterized by a nonspecific nuclear pattern, lacking the classic gene fusion of DDIT3 with FUS or EWSR1. The gene discussed is FUS; the disease is atypical lipomatous tumor.
