DNMT3A and inflammatory bowel disease: Howell et al. (2018) demonstrated that DNA methylation profiles in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) from pediatric IBD patients correlate with disease subtypes and clinical outcomes, suggesting that epigenetic regulation is a key driver of mucosal inflammation. Further, Fazio et al. (2022) identified DNA methyltransferase 3A (DNMT3A) as a critical regulator of epithelial barrier integrity and regeneration in colitis models, linking epigenetic modifications to impaired wound healing in IBD.
