Briefly, the formation of pro-IL-1β was induced by the NF-κB signaling pathway, while the maturation of pro-IL-1β into cleaved-IL-1β was achieved by the activated caspase-1, which depended on the NLRP3 inflammasome.41 Studies demonstrated that some SLRPs, such as biglycan, activated the formation of NLRP3 inflammasome.42 This study demonstrated a suppressive effect of OMD administration on the expression of NLRP3 and the activation of caspase-1. This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and occult macular dystrophy.
