miR-34a is highly expressed in the adult mammalian brain [117]; it is a tumour suppressor [118], a regulator of endothelial and mitochondrial function [119], a modulator of NF-κB signalling pathway for T cell function [120], and appears to function as a negative regulator of SERPINA3 in preeclampsia [121].
