This hypothesis is supported by three findings: (1) HbA1c at onset was slightly, but significant (p  < 0.001) higher, (2) the frequency of severe DKA at onset was increased, and (3) the estimated mean weight-adjusted insulin requirement was higher in patients with diabetes onset during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with those with diabetes onset before the pandemic [1, 2]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and diabetes mellitus.
