To further elucidate the potential of PRPS1 to act as a substrate of AMPKα1, the expression levels of AMPKα1, p-AMPKα1(T172), PRPS1 and p-PRPS1(S180) were determined in melanoma cells that were glucose deprived or treated with AIACR, an AMPK activator that can markedly increase the level of phosphorylated AMPK. The gene discussed is PRPS1; the disease is melanoma.
