Of interest, PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1), a serine/threonine kinase, and Parkin (PRKN), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, both associated with familial forms of PD, have been shown to act as repressors of innate immune responses independently from their previously described roles in mitophagy. Here, PINK1 is linked to Parkinson disease.
