During EBV infection, EBV Nuclear Antigen 2 (EBNA2) acts as a master transcriptional regulator, recruiting various transcription factors shortly after infection to promote the expression of pro-growth genes, including several critical metabolic enzymes and factors like the one-carbon metabolism enzyme MTHFD2 and the lactate transporter MCT1 [13,41]. Here, MTHFD2 is linked to Epstein-Barr virus infection.
