The imbalance between proinflammatory and anti‐inflammatory processes contributes to chronic inflammation and the formation of atherosclerotic plaques.[52] Targeting inflammation could provide a promising avenue to prevent and treat atherosclerosis.[53] Activation of PPARα can reduce inflammation to attenuate atherosclerosis.[54] In this study, wogonin reduced the level of systemic inflammation in LDLR−/− mice and promoted macrophage polarization from the M1 to M2 type, which contributed to the antiatherogenic effect of wogonin. This evidence concerns the gene PPARA and atherosclerosis.
