Alterations in the members of the PI3K/AKT pathway in thyroid cancer can co-occur with MAPK-activating alterations and are enriched in the aggressive forms of the disease, with about 20–40% of ATC cases harboring such alterations (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15). The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is thyroid gland carcinoma.
