Acupuncture stimulation at LR3, LI4, GV20, GB20, DU16, and ST36 in 6-OHDA rats significantly upregulated the expression levels of phosphorylated IRE1 (p-IRE1) and XBP1, restored the endoplasmic reticulum's protein quality control ability, reduced the abnormal aggregation of midbrain α-synaptic nuclear proteins, and elevated the striatal dopamine and serotonin levels, which resulted in improved motor coordination and sensory integration function in PD model rats. Here, XBP1 is linked to Parkinson disease.
