Acupuncture stimulation at LR3, LI4, GV20, GB20, DU16, and ST36 in 6-OHDA rats significantly upregulated the expression levels of phosphorylated IRE1 (p-IRE1) and XBP1, restored the endoplasmic reticulum's protein quality control ability, reduced the abnormal aggregation of midbrain α-synaptic nuclear proteins, and elevated the striatal dopamine and serotonin levels, which resulted in improved motor coordination and sensory integration function in PD model rats. The gene discussed is ERN1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
