The sustained pEMT and subsequent arrest of renal tubular epithelial cells at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle are essential for the development of renal fibrosis.(Lovisa et al., 2016; Sheng and Zhuang, 2020) The loss of the adherens junction protein E-cadherin and expression of phosphorylated histone H3 at serine 10 (H3pSer10) are commonly used as markers to characterize the presence of EMT and G2/M arrest, respectively (Lovisa et al., 2016; Sheng and Zhuang, 2020).
