Consistent with previous research, our findings demonstrate that the priapism phenotype in SCD mice is characterized by enhanced smooth muscle relaxation of the CC in response to NO-cGMP pathway stimulants such as ACh, SNP, and EFS, attributed to reduced cGMP degradation by PDE5, resulting in prolonged and exaggerated penile erections (Silva et al., 2016b; Musicki et al., 2020; Pereira et al., 2022; Pinheiro et al., 2022). The gene discussed is PDE5A; the disease is Priapism.
