Data suggest that two variants of the VDR gene, rs2107301 and rs2189480, perform a predominant part in susceptibility to sepsis in children (He et al., 2021); mutations in the rs2107301-C and rs2189480-C alleles are concerned with a reduced risk of sepsis (He et al., 2021); and G>T at the rs739837 locus of the VDR gene is concerned with a neonatal sepsis risk reduction (Xiao L. et al., 2022).
