Serum biomarkers like C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), white blood cell (WBC) count, and α-defensin have been incorporated as parameters for PJI detection in these current diagnostic criteria [9,10] since they can be obtained non-invasively and due to their importance as indicators of the inflammatory process in PJI. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is juvenile polyposis syndrome.
