The evidence accumulated suggests that AD involves multiple interconnected etiopathogenic mechanisms including β-amyloid (Aβ) assemblies [7], tau-protein aggregation and hyperphosphorylation [8], low levels of acetylcholine [9], mitochondrial dysfunction [10], altered homeostasis of biometals [11], neuroinflammation [12], and oxidative stress [13,14,15].
