Taken together, we propose a model where the downregulation of SLIT2 and SLIT3 in CRC via promoter hypermethylation ultimately leads to miR-218-5p suppression, lifting the suppression of downstream targets such as BIRC5 and DDX21, amongst other gene targets identified in the current study, thereby promoting tumorigenesis (Figure 7E). This evidence concerns the gene SLIT2 and colorectal carcinoma.
