Clinically, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of erdosteine has been assessed in COPD patients, where treatment with this drug elicits a significant reduction in the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-8, and 8-isoprostane, a marker of lipid peroxidation in blood, as well as a reduction in exhaled NO [21]. Here, CXCL8 is linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
