Modern molecular classification additionally emphasizes the role of mutations in the BRCA1 (breast cancer gene 1) and BRCA2 (breast cancer gene 2) genes and disturbances in signaling pathways such as PI3K/AKT (phosphoinositide 3-kinases/protein kinase B), RAS/MAPK (rat sarcoma/mitogen-activated protein kinase) or TP53 (tumor protein P53), which are key to the progression of this cancer (Figure 1) [8,9,10,11].
