In contrast, mutations in the APC are uncommon in the serrated colorectal cancer (SCC) pathway, which is initiated by activating mutations in BRAF or KRAS and usually progresses to malignancy through a plethora of epigenetic alterations, microsatellite instability and MLH1 hypermethylation (Fennell et al., 2020; Borowsky et al., 2018; Rustgi, 2013).
