Notably, a review highlighted that t has been proposed that individuals with Down syndrome experience abnormal oxidative stress, potentially due to increased activity of Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) (Gardiner, 2010); which causes an excess of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) an important precursor of hydroxyl radical (Campos and Casado, 2015). Here, SOD1 is linked to Down syndrome.
