Interleukin 23 (IL-23) is a key cytokine in IBD pathogenesis8–10 and targeting IL-23 has been successful as a therapeutic strategy.11 However, IL-23 inhibitors currently approved for IBD are biologics with parenteral routes of administration, which may be unfavorable or inconvenient for patients.12–14. This evidence concerns the gene IL37 and inflammatory bowel disease.
