While the exact etiology remains elusive, 5–10% of ALS cases exhibit a familial, autosomal dominant inheritance pattern [2] (fALS) linked to mutations in over 50 genes [3], including TARDBP (~ 4% of fALS), FUS (~ 5% of fALS), SOD1 (~ 20% of fALS), and C9ORF72 (~ 40% of fALS). This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
