Our findings indicate that intracellular lactate uptake is increased in HCAR1 KO cells (Fig. 4), which is contrary to reports in cancer biology, where monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs) and lactate uptake is found downregulated in HCAR1 silenced cells (Roland et al., 2014; Tafur et al., 2019; Longhitano et al., 2022). The gene discussed is HCAR1; the disease is cancer.
