The centrality of Lipid Metabolism to AD pathogenesis was supported by myriad observations from recent decades, including genetic studies that implicate Lipid Metabolism associated genes (e.g., APOE, CLU, ABCA7, SORL1) in driving AD risk37, the observation that amyloid-beta production occurs in lipid raft membrane microdomains38, recent lipidomic studies that identify changes in lipid species that are specific to the disease39,40, and many more. Here, SORL1 is linked to Alzheimer disease.
