By modulating the nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2/heme oxygenase-1 (Nrf2/HO-1) pathway – a pathway implicated in the pathogenesis and development of adenomyosis – simvastatin may increase the DNA-binding activity of Nfr2, inducing expression of its target genes and thus allowing protection against oxidative stress (Chen et al. 2017, Mansouri et al. 2022). This evidence concerns the gene HMOX1 and adenomyosis.
