In HepG2 hepatocarcinoma cells, sauchinone showed a reduction in hepatic steatosis by downregulating the expression of hepatic PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9) through protein SREBP-2 (sterol regulatory element binding protein-2), which is a transcriptional regulator of cholesterol homeostasis. Here, PCSK9 is linked to fatty liver disease.
