While current guidelines, including the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Medical Care [73] and the consensus report from the ADA and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) [74], prioritize GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and SGLT2 inhibitors as second-line agents, particularly in patients with or at high risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), our findings suggest that the role of DPP-4is in this context may warrant reconsideration. The gene discussed is GCG; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
