The vascular endothelium contributes to blood pressure by regulating vascular tone (Gallo et al., 2021), and endothelial dysfunction is characterised by an increase in vasoconstrictors acting on the endothelial cells (i.e. endothelin‐1 (ET‐1)) (Deanfield et al., 2005) and a reduction in the bioavailability of vasodilators (i.e. NO) (Brunner et al., 2005). The gene discussed is EDN1; the disease is endothelial dysfunction.
