In patients with liver cirrhosis with and without HCC, a strong correlation was observed between suPAR concentrations and laboratory parameters of liver function, for example, Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score (rS = 0.493, p < 0.001 and 0.664, p < 0.001) and albumin–bilirubin (ALBI) score (rS = −0.673, p < 0.001 and − 0.668, p < 0.001), as well as with clinical features of portal hypertension (oesophageal varices, ascites and hepatic encephalopathy, p < 0.005 in each case; Figure S1). This evidence concerns the gene ALB and cirrhosis of liver.
