On the basis of the unchanged gene expression levels of selected representatives of this functional group (IGF2R, M6PR and SORT1) in IFITM1 KO cells, it was hypothesized that, along with effects on the biophysical properties of membranes, IFITM1 affects the exposure and turnover of numerous membrane proteins, which may be another explanation for its broad antiviral properties and underscores its significant role in tumor progression. This evidence concerns the gene M6PR and neoplasm.
