Mucin-1(MUC-1) is a promising target for enhanced cancer detection,as it is overexpressed in >90% of breast cancers and is prevalentin colorectal, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and lung carcinomas.24 The extracellular portion of mucins consistsof around 20 to 120 or more repetitions of a 20 amino acid residuesequence (HGVTSAPDTRPAPGSTAPPA) containing five O-linked glycosylationsites.
