The discovery of lysophospholipids as a common stimulus for Panx1 and Panx2 may underlie the proposed compensatory roles between Panx1 and Panx2 described in ischemic stroke (Bargiotas et al., 2011) and insulin secretion from β-cells (Berchtold et al., 2017).
