Following the traumatic delivery of this neonate, his NICU course was complicated by several factors including neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (requiring positive pressure ventilation), anemia (requiring PRBCs), electrolyte abnormalities (resolved with feeds and fluid management), cardiac concerns (managed with an indomethacin course), infection (treated with antibiotics), and persistent hyperglycemia (requiring insulin and glyburide). This evidence concerns the gene INS and infection.
