BRCA1 and ovarian carcinoma: Olaparib, a poly-adenosine diphosphate ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitor, has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) for the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer in patients with germline BRCA1/2 mutations (gBRCAm) and for the treatment of ERBB2 [previously human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2)]-negative metastatic breast cancer associated with a gBRCAm in patients who previously received chemotherapy (13).
