Obesity-related studies have shown that the mitochondrial autophagy receptor FUNDC1 interacted with the related ubiquitin ligase complex receptor, the subunit of which regulated IP3R2 receptor degradation, preventing calcium overload and alleviating myocardial lipotoxic damage (Ren et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene FUNDC1 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
