This supports the argument that increased insulin levels could be a significant factor in cancer risk in antidiabetics that increase insulin levels.136,137 Interestingly, Thakkar et al. reported no relationship between sulfonylureas and cancer risk in RCTs (RR: 1.17; 95% CI: 0.95–1.45) or case–control studies (OR: 1.02; 95% CI: 0.93–1.13).132 This inconsistency is likely due to the diverse pharmacological agents within the sulfonylurea class. This evidence concerns the gene INS and cancer.
