TMEM106B and dementia: Variants linked to disease risk of dementia are associated solely with elevated expression of the TMEM106B gene at 7p21. Co‐localization analyses suggest a shared causal variant that connects disease association with TMEM106B expression in human brain. Moreover, heightened TMEM106B levels correlate with increased abnormal lysosomal phenotypes and cytotoxicity in both immortalized cell lines and neurons.
