The P2Y2 receptor (P2Y2R) is activated byboth ATP and UTP and is principally coupled to the Gq protein.7 The P2Y2R is predominantly expressedin the lungs, female and male tissues, proximal digestive tract, andlymphoid tissues as well as at lower levels in skin and soft tissue.32 Inhibition of the P2Y2R could haveclinical benefits for diseases driven by chronic inflammation, suchas atherosclerosis and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, as well as cancer,where the receptor has been implicated in tumor growth and metastasis.33−36. This evidence concerns the gene P2RY2 and pulmonary fibrosis.
