In support of this, two independent recent studies in which SAMHD1 T592 mutants were either reconstituted in PMA-differentiated U937 cells (44), or knocked in to a macrophage-like cell line namely BLaER1 (45), showed that phospho-mimic SAMHD1 mutant T592D or T592E alleviated SAMHD1-mediated restriction on HIV-1 infection but remained effective in depriving dNTP pool. The gene discussed is SAMHD1; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
