Previously, Rockowitz et al. [45] revealed using human and mouse embryonic stem cells to identify several ALS-related gene sequences, including those encoding alsin (ALS2), erb-b2 receptor tyrosine kinase 4 (ERBB4, ALS19), fused in sarcoma (FUS, ALS6), senataxin (SETX, ALS4), and VAPB, which are specifically enriched with human-specific REST binding genes. The gene discussed is ALS2; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
