KRT7 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Tumor nodules can be directly visualized based on their fluorescence pattern: homogenous fluorescence is typically seen in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to impaired biliary excretion, while rim- type or halo-shaped fluorescence is mainly observed in colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), caused by accumulation of ICG in surrounding immature, CK7- positive hepatocytes with reduced clearance capacity [2, 3] (Figs. 1, 2a,b).
