Apart from contributing to the MASH, CD4+ T cells cause fatty acid-induced death during MASH, the conventional CD8+ T cells, including the CXCR6+ subset, and TH17 cells, including the CXCR3+ subset, contribute to fibrosis, steatosis and liver injury that eventually lead to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) because CD8+ T cells are involved in direct hepatocyte killing. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
