The polyphenol phloretin (Ph), isolated from apples, significantly antagonizes GLUT1 in daunorubicin-resistant breast cancer cells and CRC cells, markedly inhibiting glucose uptake and inducing apoptosis in daunorubicin-resistant cells, thereby enhancing chemotherapeutic efficacy (Cao et al. 2007). The gene discussed is SLC2A1; the disease is breast cancer.
